There may be no greater example than modern slavery, which currently includes an estimated 50 million people — likely more, and rising fast. A new study, published this week, says conviction rates are critically low.
You probably have not heard about this in the news.
I searched headlines, a crucial marker of what news agencies consider important. The silence is stunning. (I think that’s a better image than deafening, because when you hear this, you might want to pause to absorb what it means about our media, and our society.)
