I had said that I would jump in this week amid the cacophony only if I had something important for you to hear. I do. The media is going wild with claims about how various demographics allegedly voted in this election. But it’s too soon to know. These early numbers are notoriously problematic and all over the place.
For example, here’s a look at some reporting on one demographic:
When people feel traumatized about the results of an election, they’re especially susceptible to media that offer hot takes and quick pseudo-explanations. (That is a big reason that so many people were willing to believe Trump's lies about the election four years ago.) To get to the truth, we need to steel ourselves against that.
Take any of the alleged demographic breakdowns and explanations you're reading/hearing/seeing in the media with a truckload of salt right now.
