Recently, Rep. Haley Stevens made news for standing up to a blood libelist. “There’s literally no genocide going on,” she told a crazed agitator who followed her and called for her death. “Antizionism is a hate movement.” Emphasizing that she wants a “two-state solution,” she added, “I’m a Zionist. I love Israel!”
A Protestant Democrat from Michigan, Stevens has made her Zionism clear in the past as well. Calling a hate movement what it is made waves — and news. Adam Louis-Klein, founder of the Movement Against Antizionism, brought this up in our interview as a sign that the message is starting to get through.
And Yet…
Stevens has also endorsed her former opponent for the Senate, Abdul El-Sayed. As Jonathan Chait reported at The Atlantic, “El-Sayed would become the most fervently anti-Zionist senator.” The headline and subhead alone should be required reading for Michigan voters: “Abdul El-Sayed Fuses Together Two Toxic Ideologies: The Michigan candidate for U.S. Senate has a profound weakness for conspiracism.”
I’ve covered how deeply wrong and dangerous El-Sayed is. He has filled his campaign with vicious blood libel.
After losing to him in the Senate primary, Stevens called for unity among Democrats and said it’s time to put differences aside. That’s ridiculous. Basic ethics are more important than political parties.
But for professional politicians, refusing to put partisan loyalty first can be a career death sentence. Just look at the many people trying to destroy Sen. John Fetterman, another non-Jewish lawmaker who stands against AZHM, the antizionist hate movement.
This problem is fueled by the media. Mainstream news agencies reward antizionists with glowing coverage while pillorying those who do the right thing.
Note to Haley Stevens: Don’t play these games. Americans have reason to believe that the woman who shouted down a hater is the real you. Please stand up.
A new episode comes out tomorrow, focusing on what the world has lost in the three years since the Oct. 7 massacres.
